Your online portfolio

Here at Oxide, we review student portfolios on a fairly regular basis, and I have some thoughts to share. First of all, when you are not showing your work in person, you need to have your portfolio online. (This isn’t just because I’m a developer.) An online portfolio shows so much better than flipping through a bunch of pages on a PDF. And I would highly recommend against sending a potential employer or internship several individual files of your projects.…

Bric website

We just launched a new website for one the coolest time-tracking services out there. This new software, Bric (getbric.com), is one of the cleanest and most beautiful time-tracking products I’ve seen. Brainchild of Grant Stanley and Josh Hoberman, Bric helps you manage your professional services team and their time effectively. Bric website homepage Current features include project management, project planning, time tracking, advanced reporting, and team management. I’m impressed how Bric helps its users accurately plan their team’s calendar and…

Film Streams website redesign

Film Streams is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the cultural environment of the Omaha-Council Bluffs area through the presentation and discussion of film as an art form. They’re located in the Ruth Sokolof Theater within the Saddle Creek Records complex in North Downtown Omaha. Oxide was able to partner with Film Streams for their branding and their original website from 2007. After eight years of using that site, Film Streams was ready for an update. Even though the site…

My Scotland / Ireland adventure

A few weeks ago, my wife, mother-in-law, and I flew over to Ireland and Scotland for 10 days. Have to say it was “so choice.” If you ever have the chance to go, I highly recommend it. Having never been to Europe, I had no concept of what to expect. My wife has been several times and did a pretty amazing job planning and coordinating most of it. It was non-stop. By the end of the trip we had flown…

What’s a “sport”?

If you’ve been around the Oxide office lately, you’d have heard us bantering back and forth over the difference between a competitive activity and a “sport”. For myself, I think there’s an interesting series of questions there as well as a pretty funny discussion. What is the traditional definition of “sport”? What, according to popular culture, is considered a sport today? Which definition takes precedence (popular opinion vs. traditional)? It’s my hope that through this brief blog post, I’ll at…

Mula Mexican Kitchen website

Over the past year and a half, Oxide has had the honor working with Michael Sanchez on his latest restaurant, Mula Mexican Kitchen & Tequileria. Located on the corner of 40th and Farnam, this establishment has become one of the must-see destinations in Omaha. This modern take on Mexican food has something for everyone with specialty margaritas & tequila cocktails to high-end dinner and lunch menu items. Throughout our working relationship with Mula, we’ve been privileged with branding the restaurant,…

Chris’ Great™ movies

Seems like we’ve taken a lot of personality tests here at Oxide lately. Some seem accurate like, for instance, telling me I’m an introvert. My favorite has been the Star Wars interpretation of the Myers Briggs.

Hi. I’m Chris.

Hey. I’m Chris. I’m a UX designer and front-end developer who loves family, good beer, scotch, and gaming. Since my first explorations into design back in high school, I’ve always loved being creative. But, more than that, I’ve loved the time, technique, and devotion needed to build something beautiful from the ground up. It initially started with drafting and HTML classes, but quickly led to AutoCAD evening courses and experimenting with 3D animation.
