The Most Magical Place on Earth (that every designer needs to visit)

It’s rare to find a designer without some level of reverence for Disney. The brand is a household name internationally, and practically every designer yearns for a chance to work on any kind of project with them. (One Omaha-based firm even got the opportunity.) You already know they own the rights to every cool franchise in the universe (except for Aquaman). And you’ve undoubtedly heard the story of their billion-dollar MagicBand. But take it from me, the Disney brand is…

2017 Summer Internship

Hey design students, looking for great summer plans? As in, plans that will add a phenomenal element to your portfolio and make you stand out from the rest when it comes time to apply for a post-college position? Oxide is looking for the next up-and-coming designer for our summer 2017 design internship!

Oxide featured in Smithsonian Design Museum

I am honored to share that the work of Oxide Design Co. has been featured in an exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City. The Field Guides To Ensuring Voter Intent that we designed in collaboration with Center for Civic Design were selected as part of the By the people: Designing a better America exhibit. Starting from a modest Kickstarter project in 2012, the Field Guides have grown from four volumes to 10, covering topics from…

Oxide’s 15th anniversary!

Today marks a big day in the history of Oxide Design Co. — we’re celebrating fifteen years in business! It sounds cliché, but it feels like it went by in the blink of an eye. I can still clearly recall those first days of sitting in the big, empty Oxide office at 4013 Farnam Street, wondering how I was going to keep myself busy.

Oxide in Communication Arts Design Annual 57

We are pleased to announce that the design work of Oxide has been selected for inclusion in Communication Arts’ Design Annual 57. The logo we designed for Nebraska Craft Brewers Guild is featured on page 112 of the September/October 2016 issue, and in the online gallery of winners. This marks our sixth time winning CA, and Oxide is this year’s only honoree from anywhere in Nebraska or Iowa. Based on entries selected out of the total number of entries received,…

UNO Graduate Studies campaign

We’ve had the pleasure of working with University of Nebraska Omaha‘s University Communications office for the past few years. Typically, the projects are more internal, focusing on bringing consistency to the UNO brand or the information architecture of the University’s website. But recently we were also able to partner with them on a more public project.

Oxide celebrates fourteen years in business

This month we celebrate Oxide’s 14th anniversary! It always feels good to achieve another successful year in business, and it’s also a great time to look back at the year that’s transpired. Our home – the fledgling Blackstone District I mentioned in last year’s anniversary post – is now one of Omaha’s most vibrant neighborhoods, full of restaurants, bars, and a multitude of residential options. On the internally-facing side, we’ve completed our interior renovations, and now have a separate, sound-insulated…

Baxter branding

In the spring of 2015, we had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mickey Anderson, Angie Quinn, and Scott Zagurski. Mickey and Angie own a collection of car dealerships, and Scott had recently signed on as their new Director of Marketing. They reached out to Oxide because it was time for a branding overhaul. Operating under the Baxter and Performance names, plus a collection of luxury car brands, they own more than 20 dealerships in addition to multiple auto service centers…

California Voter Information Guides

At Oxide, we use the term “election design” to describe design that solves issues across the full range of the voting experience. It’s not just ballot design; it’s things like wayfinding and informational signage at polling places, data visualization of election results, and user interfaces for election officials’ administrative software.

Oxide featured in LogoLounge Master Library, Volume 4

I’m pleased to announce that eight logos designed by the Oxide team have been selected for inclusion in LogoLounge Master Library, Volume 4: 3000 Type and Calligraphy Logos. Each volume in the Master Library series focuses on a different specific category – Volume 4 features over 3,000 typographic and word-based logos. The logos in the series are selected from the LogoLounge database, and do not appear in any other LogoLounge book. The entries are accepted on an ongoing basis through…
