Seems like we’ve taken a lot of personality tests here at Oxide lately. Some seem accurate like, for instance, telling me I’m an introvert. My favorite has been the Star Wars interpretation of the Myers Briggs.

Han shot first“Yes, I’ll bet you have.” – Han Solo, A New Hope

But of all the ways to get to know someone, I think movies tell far more and are probably the most important method for measuring compatibility. I don’t mean most important date question. I mean one of the most important life questions. Ridiculous? Maybe. Maybe not.

Knowing someone’s “Top 10” tells you far more about who they are, what they believe in, what they aspire to, and who they are when no one else is around than any personality quiz. Idea: Someone should make personality quiz that gauges movies interests”¦

Using the definition of a Great™ movie being one that you’d watch right now, here are the films I wish I was watching.

The Greats

  • A New Hope
Classic. Amazing. Fun. The original Star Wars should be on everyone’s movie list.
  • Empire Strikes Back
    Star Wars… enough said.
  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
A classic coming-of-age film that’s clever, hilarious and lighthearted.
  • Hunt for Red October
Classic film with Sean Connery as the heroic Russian submarine commander. Not a whole lot of action. Just a great film. Period.
  • Kingdom of Heaven (Director’s Cut)
The director’s cut makes this film great. A stylish, action-packed adventure with several well-crafted battle scenes.
  • Layer Cake
A really sharp film that has a lot of style and action.
  • Lucky Number Slevin
Great cast. Outstanding story. Unfolds nicely.
  • Return of the Jedi
    Star Wars…
  • RocknRolla
In my opinion, this is probably the best Guy Richie film. Funny. Great action. Solid gangster film.
  • V for Vendetta
A great “political” thriller that’s sharp, quite clever, and is just plain fun to watch.
