jQuery 1.4 website

Awhile back, Jonathan Sharp stepped into our office with a simple request: help jQuery develop the visuals for a new website celebrating the upcoming release of jQuery 1.4. The theme — 14 days of jQuery — is not only a reference to the new version of software, but also the release date and birthday of jQuery (January 14th).

jQuery is a JavaScript library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for rapid web development. Now if that sounds confusing, don’t worry, I really don’t know what most of that means either. There is, however, a huge community of developers that swear by it. For example: websites like Google, Major League Baseball, NBC, CBS, and Netflix all use jQuery. Long story short: jQuery is designed to change the way we have been writing JavaScript.

For the banner visuals, we knew we had to come up with something loud and celebratory. Once our concepting led us to the idea of trumpets, we knew we had found the solution. Historically, trumpets have always been used to signal huge announcements or arrivals by governments, militaries, and religions. While the arrival of jQuery may not be as epic as the second coming, it’s still a pretty big deal. Plus, the ability to include 14 trumpets certainly doesn’t hurt the concept.

We’re proud to have been a a design partner and sponsor of the launch of jQuery 1.4. Thanks to the whole team for bringing us on board!
