Flywheel may be the best thing ever
About a year or so ago, a friend of mine, Rick Knudtson, hinted at something he and Dusty Davidson were working on. He was talking about a hosting company. But not just any hosting company – this would be a hosting company that was design-centric and WordPress-optimized. He was talking about everything Oxide has ever wanted in a hosting company.
Over the years, I’ve had many dealings with various hosting companies, and none of them particularly good. Slow performance and poor support are par for the course with many “affordable” hosting companies. Oh, and downtime: don’t even get me started on downtime. I can’t even write about it without gritting my teeth – the horrible memories come flowing back like a nightmare.
But if the hosting market is a scorched landscape of shame and disappointment, then Flywheel is the brilliant phoenix rising from the ashes, moving at the speed of light, carrying a foam-sword-wielding Tony Noecker through the clouds into the heavens of wonderful tech support.
Now Flywheel has officially launched, and I am here to tell you that you should be using it. We have been using it since it was in in Beta, and I have nothing but good things to say. They’ve streamlined everything – setting up a site takes seconds, the DNS settings work like a dream, setting up access to collaborators has never been easier, and they even built a custom database manager the likes of which I have never seen before. It is simply beautiful. Oh, and did I mention that it is insanely affordable and fair? Yeah, there’s that too!
Chances are, if you are coming to us for a website, you’ll be using Flywheel by the time it is live, so it’s time to get familiar with it. Also, if you are looking into making a site of your own, I cannot stress how much I recommend this service – there is simply no other option.
Editor’s note: Flywheel did not provide payment or other compensation for this post. We actually just like them this much.
